The equation remains the same for Manchester City after yesterday’s win over Wolves

The equation remains the same for Manchester City following yesterday’s 5-1 win over Wolves. Three more wins will see Pep Guardiola’s side create history and claim a fourth consecutive Premier League title. In regards to the situation surrounding this season’s title race, nothing has changed after yesterday’s results.

With Arsenal picking up a comfortable victory over Bournemouth in yesterday’s early kick off, the pressure shifted to City before their match against Wolves. But the champions responded to the pressure of the title race by effectively ending yesterday’s game by halftime. Erling Haaland’s first half hat trick saw City head in at the interval with a 3-nil lead. Second half goals from Erling Haaland and Julian Alvarez saw Pep Guardiola’s side pick up all three points with a 5-1 win.

Yesterday’s results means Manchester City now needs three more wins to create history this season. Fulham, Tottenham, and West Ham are the final three Premier League fixtures on City’s schedule. If the world champions win all three, Arsenal’s results will remain irrelevant in the title race. In terms of keeping their title destiny in their own hands, it was mission accomplished for Manchester City yesterday.

Speaking following his team’s win yesterday, Pep Guardiola believes Manchester City will have to win all of their remaining fixtures to become champions again. He told the media following his team’s win: “There’s just one week left – one week, three games. Nine points, we will be champions. Seven points, six points, three points – Arsenal will be champions.”

Heading into yesterday’s game at the Etihad Manchester City needed four wins to reclaim the Premier League title. The equation remains the same following yesterday’s result. Win all of their remaining games, and Manchester City become champions. That’s all that matters ahead of next weekend’s fixtures.
