Joselu Mato’s 88th and 91st minute goals ensured that Real Madrid booked their place in another Champions League final, defeating Bayern Munich 2-1 on Wednesday night (4-3 on aggregate). Up until those moments, Alphonso Davies had looked like being the difference maker, as he fired home an unstoppable strike in the second half.

It was somewhat fitting that Davies scored, given that he has been heavily linked with joining Los Blancos in the summer. Club bosses were impressed by his display at the Santiago Bernabeu, and Sport have reported that they also could not believe that he started neither of the two legs.

Davies was a late substitute at the Allianz Arena, and also played the majority of the match on Wednesday as Serge Gnabry was forced off with a hamstring injury. Thomas Tuchel opted to start with Noussair Mazraoui for the two fixtures, which is something that bemused Real Madrid.

It remains to be seen whether Real Madrid will make their move for Davies in the summer. They want to sign him on a cut-price deal, given that his Bayern contract expires at the end of next season – although they are prepared to wait until 2025 if the asking price they seek is not matched.
