Cowboys hosting WR Zay Jones for a visit Wednesday
Corey Perrine/Florida Times-Union / USA TODAY NETWORK

NFL insider Jordan Schultz reported early Wednesday morning that the Cowboys are hosting released WR Zay Jones for a visit.

Jones met with the Cardinals and Titans already, so he has interest. Jones is 29, a former second-round pick of the Bills in 2017.

Jones signed a 24-million-dollar deal with the Jaguars in 2022. He was entering his final year when the Jags released him early last week.

His best season came in 2022 when he started 15 games and had 121 targets for 823 yards and five touchdowns.

As we all should know by now, was released and signed with the Los Vegas Raiders. So the Cowboys WR3 is still kinda open.

My guess is Jalen Tolbert has the inside track for that spot as he out-snapped Gallup in a handful of games last season.

He looked more comfortable in 2023 than in his rookie season, where he couldn't even see the field.

A healthy Zay Jones would be a good addition to the Cowboy's receiving room.

Jalen Tolbert is expected to be the WR3, but you bring in a guy like Jones who torched the Cowboys in 2022.

Jones did not make any trips to IR last season but missed six games in seven weeks over the season's first half.

At Least Jerry Jones is Doing Something

Look, I feel the same way as you, this team has done nothing to get better, but adding a guy like Jones behind and Brandin Cooks would make their wide receivers solid.

We aren't sure what we are going to get from the room, it is led by Zeke who is on the backside of his career. Followed by guys who have yet to prove anything in this league.

Adding a veteran like Jones would help the offense, regardless if he is the WR3 or WR4.

I honestly think the might be better than what folks think.

With Tyler Guyton at left tackle, Tyler Smith at guard. Then Beebe at center with and Terence Steele on the right the Cowboy's offensive line should be at worst at the same level as last season.

In a year that is playing for his career in Dallas. This would help.

I am worried about the depth they lost on the defensive side of the ball, so I think Mike Zimmer calling plays will help, but the offense is going to need to score a lot of points. So why not add Jones for cheap and see what you get?

Wouldn't Hurt

He was born in Dallas, so it makes sense.

Jones isn't going to step in and change the game, that we understand. But Dallas needs depth, you can't convince me that Jalen Brooks, Ryan Flournoy, Matavis Bryant are the guys we have to depend on his someone gets hurt.

Sorry, but I would rather have Jalen Tolbert AND Zay Jones sitting in my back pocket. Both will play without injury.

It would be nice to see bring him in and compete for a spot. He has done nothing to make this team better after claiming to be “all-in.” Jones is a far cry from that, but a solid guy to throw in with Lamb and Cooks.

It won't hurt the team to see what he's got, but knowing Jerry Jones, I am sure he will leave without a deal and will sign with either the Titans or the Cardinals tomorrow. That is just the way the cookie crumbles in Dallas.

The NFL schedule will be released next week. So we have some time before we see when the Cowboys play on certain weeks.
