White Sox Option Lenyn Sosa to Add Elvis Andrus

According to reports on Thursday, the Chicago White Sox signed shortstop Elvis Andrus off waivers after he was released by the Oakland Athletics. The White Sox made the signing official Friday and announced a move to make room for him. The club optioned Lenyn Sosa to Triple-A Charlotte.

With Tim Anderson sidelined for approximately five more weeks, Andrus joins the South Siders to help bolster the shortstop position. The 33-year-old brings experience and a serviceable glove to a White Sox team looking to make a push for the playoffs.

In 106 games for the A’s this season, Andrus slashed .237/.301/.373 with eight home runs, 24 doubles, and 42 RBIs. Defensively, he recorded 114 putouts, 262 assists, and a .977 fielding percentage across 848.2 innings.

Oakland cut ties with Andrus to avoid letting his $15 million 2023 player option vest. By not allowing the veteran to reach 550 plate appearances in 2022, his player option is no longer void.

As Elvis Andrus enters the Chicago White Sox’ infield mix, Lenyn Sosa heads to Triple-A Charlotte. Sosa has struggled at the dish with a slash line of .114/.139/.229 in 36 plate appearances for the Sox in 2022.
