$550,000 Nyquist Colt Tops OBS Spring Sale’s Day Three

Hip No. 891, a son of Nyquist consigned by Wavertree Stables, Inc. (Ciaran Dunne), Agent, was purchased for $550,000 by Donato Lanni, Agent for Zedan Racing Stable, to top the third session of the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company’s 2024 Spring Sale of 2-Year-Olds in Training. 

The bay colt, who breezed an Under Tack eighth in :10 flat, is out of Grade 1 winner Acoma, by Empire Maker, a half sister to graded stakes winner and U.A.E. Horse of the Year Festival of Light,

- Hip No. 643, a daughter of Bolt d’Oro consigned by de Meric Sales, Agent, went to Woodford Thoroughbreds for $450,000. The gray or roan filly, who breezed an eighth in :10 flat, is a half sister to stakes placed Blue Squall out of Sky o’ Blue, by Henny Hughes, from the family of graded stakes winner Night in Reno.

- Hip No. 717, a son of War of Will consigned by Grassroots Training & Sales LLC, was sold to Cherie DeVaux, Agent, for $400,000. The dark bay or brown colt, who breezed an eighth in :10 flat, is out of stakes placed Sunday Sonnet, by Any Given Saturday, a half sister to graded stakes winner Pianist.

- Hip No. 613, a daughter of Munnings consigned by Niall Brennan Stables, Agent, went to John C. Kimmel, Agent for Nedlaw Stables, for $350,000. The chestnut filly, who breezed an eighth in :10 flat, is out of Sheriffa, by Posse, a half sister to stakes winner Tiergan.

- Justin Casse, Agent, went to $350,000 for Hip No. 637, a daughter of Omaha Beach consigned by Wavertree Stables, Inc. (Ciaran Dunne), Agent. The dark bay or brown filly, whose eighth in :9 4/5 was the session’s co-fastest, is out of Sister Margaret, by Pulpit, a half sister to stakes winner Dance Gal Dance.

- Hip No. 638, a son of Maclean’s Music consigned by Top Line Sales LLC, Agent, was purchased by Taproot Bloodstock, Agent, for $350,000. The chestnut colt is out of Six Ornaments, by Flatter, a half sister to graded stakes winner Eldaafer.

- Lael Stable paid $350,000 for Hip No. 886, a son of Army Mule consigned by Grassroots Training & Sales LLC. The chestnut colt, who breezed an eighth in :10 flat, is a half brother to stakes placed OBS graduate Droppin G’s out of Zooey, by Exchange Rate.

For the session, 147 horses sold for a total of $15,122,000 compared with 167 horses grossing $20,856,000 at last year’s third session. The average price was $102,871, compared with $124,886 a year ago, while the median price was $65,000 compared with $60,000 last year. The buyback percentage was 21.8 percent; it was 21.9 percent in 2023.
