Exploring Cincy
I haven't had much of a chance to get out and explore Cincinnati because of OTAs and mini camp, but I have been getting out a little lately. The first thing I did notice was that there are like 5 bridges that go to the same place - that's a little weird to me. I do like the city though - it's a cool place. I have been able to get to Kenwood and Florence and a little in downtown. I haven't really gone out to explore yet so I am looking to the Yard for some suggestions. I keep hearing about the Montgomery Inn, but I haven't tried it yet. Jordan Palmer and I have been talking about going fishing. He thinks he can outfish me!!! Maybe his brother Carson can show us some good fishing spots.
If you have any suggestion on places to see, places to eat and places to fish I'm ready for them. As a rookie you gotta lean on veterans for some guidance so I turn to the Cincy vets in the Yard for your direction. Hit me back.

I always liked fishing out around Morrow, at Todds fork, It's a small stream but a really pretty area.
-
I recommend Zips Cafe in Mt. Lookout for the Best Burgers in Town.
For good pizza I recommend Betta's in Norwood or The Works in Loveland.
-
Oh yea i recommend Zips Cafe too in Mt. Lookout for the BEst Burgers love it there i totally agree!!
I agree with both of them those are some really great places that my daddy and Uncle took me too.
-
Reds games are fun in the summer.
-
for the best phillly cheese stake in town come to Penn Station ask Shane Graham about the place he came to the one I work at a couple of weeks ago
-
1.Kings Island-Amusement Park
2.The Zoo-one of the best in the country
3.Gold Star Chili
4.Newport Aquarium
5.Fishing-East Fork Lake-even the pro's will tell you it's one of the best fishing places around here! -
skyline chilli... graeters ice cream... larosa's pizza, montgomery inn, sharon woods, winton woods, newport on the levee, the pit (h.s.fball best in the country)... experience cincinnati, don't just let cincinnati experience you
-
KR, Cincy's a great city, but I recommend taking a ride down 71 to Louisville. Churchill Downs, Muhammad Ali Museum, Louisville Slugger Bat Museum and a ton of great restaurants are to be found, along with plenty of fishing lakes.
-
IMO, Montgomery Inn has the most overrated ribs. Cincinnati people love them, but people north of the river just don't understand what makes good bbq. Best ribs in greater Cincy are at Walt's Hitching Post in Ft Wright KY. All the ribs are hung in the smokehouse first, and you have to chew them off the bone. At MI they boil theirs which makes the meat too tender and pithy
-
The best thing about Cincinnati has got to be the food. You have heard some pretty great restaurant suggestions, but what sets Cincinnati apart is the vast number of incredible chains that all started right here.
Larosa's - great calzones, steak hogeys and pizza
Skyline & Goldstar - two great chile chains
Graeters - Some of the best ice cream the country has to offer
Penn Station - you will never have a better sub
Once you have fully endulged your taste buds you have to make it up to Mason and pay a visit to Kings Island, whether you spend your day at the water park half or the coaster half your bound to have a great time.
The Cincinnati Zoo and Newport aquarium are also both nationally acclaimed and worth experiencing first hand. -
For some of the best italian spots, try one or both of the following:
1) Pompilio's (Newport) - they filmed a scene here in the movie "Rainman" (casual and laid back)
2) Baressi's (Deer Park) - classier italian place with nice atmosphere (wear nice slacks and dress shirt) -
Don't listen to those guys saying Gold Star Chili is good, go to Skyline and never look back. Just don't do it right before a game because you'll probably be hurtin...
And I hate to do this to you since you just moved here, but OSU is gonna kick USC's butt this year. No hard feelings. -
DrWorm is right about the chili. Skyline is best. He is wrong about OSU though! I like USC myself! For pizza in Cincy, everyone goes to LaRosa's. Frisch's has the best sauce on their hamburgers. Skyline Chili as mentioned is best, Graeter's ice cream. Montgomery Inn. These are the places that we all go to. We have the best brats and mets (Queen city). Get somebody to make you some goetta and eggs, too. You can only get that in Cincy but you need to get it from someone who knows how to prepare it right.
-
Yo what up Keith as someone who grew up in Cincy but lives elsewhere the best places to eat have already been named, but if you like fried fish you got to try Alabama's. As far as getting out Main St has some cool bars and Newport on the Levee is cool, but really the Nati is lame as hell my dude, stay in LA and when you come to the Nati bring wifey so you can focus on football and stay out of the stupid sh!t. Good place to settle down and raise a family, get a Delta frequent flyer card so you get them sky miles cause ain't no real kickin it to be done in Cincy... But you 2 hours away from Atl, NYC, and da Chi...Glad that you are a Bengal, just don't get arrested...PEACE!!!!!
P.S. - Don't ever go to the Ritz -
UPDATE!!!!!! GOLD STAR IS MUUUUCH BETTER THAN SKYLINE! SKYLINE IS WATERY AND WILL MAKE YOU SICK FIRST FEW TIMES YOU EAT IT. 2)STAY OUTTA THE BARS! HAVE TO AGREE......BEST FISH IN THE NATI BY FAR.....ALABAMA'S! CLOSE TO PBS...ON CORNER OF RACE AND LIBERTY, ONLY CARRYOUT...ANY CAB DRIVER KNOWS WHERE IT IS! GRAB IT AND GO EAT IT AT EDEN PARK, ITS WHAT ME AND THE FAM DO!
-
Just stay away from Chris Henry's place...HAHA! I would try any of the suggestion that have already been made. Montgomery Inn is AMAZING! Kenwood is cool but the traffic out that way is terrible. I would suggest going to some Reds games. We have a pretty young team, who knows, maybe you and Brandon phillips could become buddies. Kings Island is a no go though....I would hate to be you going out there with all those people asking you for your autograph in the hot sun while waiting in line 3 hours for a ride that lasts 2 minutes....not fun.
-
Graeters, Aglimesis ice cream, UDF malts
Skyline or gold star chili (usally ppl will like one or other)
Krohn Conservatory is a nice place to visit -
Hey Keith, I've been gone in the Army for a few years, but what I miss most is Skyline Chili. But if you're looking to get a steak or ribs, there's a bunch of different places. For ribs, I have to agree, Montgomery Inn, the best I've ever eaten. For steak, J. Alexander's, try the Steak Maui, it's the best on the menu.
-
Oh yeah, fishing... It's a bit of a drive from Cincy, but try to get to Caesar's Creek. It's on SR 73 towards Dayton. Gotta say though, the best fishing in the area is an hour or two into Kentucky.
-
If yiou want good BBQ, hit up Big Art's BBQ in Colerain Township. It's a bit off the beaten path, at the corner of Pippin and Struble, but the steaks and ribs are fantastic.
The zoo here is one of the best in the country, so don't miss it. It's also a great place for exercise, since there are plenty of hills.
For Chinese Food, just off 75 at Buttermilk Pike is the best restaurant around town, Oriental Wok. Be prepared to pay a little more than most Chinese places, but to enjoy far better food.
Paul Brown Stadium is a lot of fun too on Sundays during the fall, well, it is for those of us who will be watching you play! We'll see you there this fall, making a difference.
WELCOME TO CINCY! -
Keith,
Welcome to the Bengals! Big props for coming in to help shore up the D. Take a look back at the ol late 80's swat team, thats the swagger we had on D, baby. I know you can bring it!!
When I am in the 'nati, I dig Camp Washington Chili, its the bomb, but skyline and Gstar are good too. Also check out the Red Squirrell, which has real double decker sandwiches, a man's meal thats as big as your head! Riverbend is the spot for concerts, sit out on the lawn with your friends and listen to some good music on the river. Its where most of the big music acts come thru.
Also check out the deveroes summer basketball league, at Woodward high going on for the next few weeks. Its a showcase for all the college players in the area from UC, Xavier, etc. catch my boy D Brown before he jumps to the NBA! -
I didn't realize we were talking outside of the greater cincinnati area, so for a really good time fishing go to lake cumberland KY, get a guide and go striper fishing. That's probably the best fishing I ever had growing up. Talk to Griffey Jr. he prolly knows the best spots!
-
Hey Keith, welcome to Cincy! Here are my suggestions:
Indian food-Ambar or Amol on Ludlow in Clifton which is better is a matter of preference; I'm personally into Amol
Pizza-Trotta's pizza on the Westside, best in the city. Great specialty pizzas.
Italian-Campanello's, downtown-this was Jose Rijo's dinner stop before he pitched a game, he even had them shipped to him for road games.
Chili-can't choose just one, Camp Washington Chili, Pleasant Ridge Chili, Skyline
Korean-Sung Korean Bistro-downtown- I was really impressed by this place!
I'll also second Alabama's and Big Art's (they set up for tailgating before each homegame at Longworth's).
Striper fishing is the best. Check out Lake Cumberland, KY or Norris Lake, TN. East Fork and Caesar's Creek are the best bets nearby.
For local high school football check out the Kirk Herbstreit Ohio vs USA Challenge. Best of the city against the best in the country. Labor Day weekend at Paul Brown Stadium.
Enjoy! -
LOL @ everyone sayin to stay away from Chris Henrys crib. Its true though. Keith we have a house in lake cumberland and a boat, holler at me and you can come down and fish for a weekend!
-
Kings Island is alot of fun.
-
Best Italian is Mama DiSalvo's in Kettering. Presidents, athletes, and celebs have made it a point to stop there.
Once you are done exploring the Dayton/Cincy area, have Ndukwe take you around Columbus. There are a lot more places to eat and hang. -
Hi Keith,
I work in Orlando, sitting right next to your Uncle Ernie. I've worked with Ernie for over 20 years now, and love the guy. Being from the city of Dayton, Kentucky (not Dayton,Ohio) across the river from Cincy, and also being a Bengals fan, I was glad to hear that the Bengals selected you and hope you'll be happy with the team, its fans and the community as well. I've been advising Ernie on ways of getting to Cincy to get to Cincy to see you play (flying into Dayton, Ohio is usually much better than flying into Cincy). My recommendation for a restaurant, if you happen to like Cajun food in a rustic atmosphere overlooking the Licking River in nearby Cold Springs, Kentucky is the Knotty Pine. It's a real treasure.
Jim in Orlando -
You better get signed, or else this season will be a wash for you. If you didn't know, this is Marvin Lewis' shortest camp ever, which means less time for the rookies to learn, and if you holdout, you will most likely lose your starting spot.
-
KR,
Hope your passion of USC football is as strong as CP. Fishing and water skiing, I love to take the family to Lake Waynoka (45mins east off SR32)! I have to 2nd that the Red Squirrel has great sandwiches! Larosa's (try the steak hoagie) and definitely Skyline Chili! I hope you enjoy your time in Cincy and please sign soon....WE NEED YOU ON DEFENSE! Go Buckeyes...O-H I-O! Had to be said -
Dude Keith. Sign the contract and get on the field. WE need YOU!!!!
Bengals fan from Long Island. -
Keith, PLEASE sign and get to camp! We NEED YOU!!!
Don't let your agent hold out to serve his own interests. -
As has been stated, we the fans are dying to see you in camp. I don't want to beg but, please hurry and get the deal done.
-
ESPN is taking notice to the hold out now, please hurry! As a word of warning, David Pollack lost his chance to start in 05 because he held out... we can't afford that with you!
-
Sign and get to camp...
-
With your talent and one of the best LB coaches in thr NFL, you can be a real difference maker on D this season. Who knows, maybe even D Rookie of the Year is possible. But for that to happen you need to be in camp learning from Coach Fitzgerald and Coach Zimmer. Get the deal done and let's see the heads start rolling Keith.
-
With your talent and one of the best LB coaches in the NFL teaching you, it's very possible for you to be a huge factor this season on D. Who knows, maybe even D Rookie of the Year is possible. But for that to happen you have to be in camp and learn from Coach FitzGerald and Coach Zimmer. Let's get the deal done and let the heads start rolling Keith.
-
The defense needs a leader so the sooner you are in camp the better. Good luck this season and get the deal done so you can be a starter because it is something the team needs from game 1.
-
Hey a great place to visit right now would be Georgetown, Kentucky. I heard the atmosphere is great there. Oh, by the way there is something called a camp operated by the Bengals going on right now in Georgetown. It would be nice for you to finally come to camp instead of holding out and being a total idiot jeopardizing your ability to reach your full potential.
-
Sign the contract!!! Get into camp!! You are missing out and losing ground with the players, coaches and fans. Do what is right and get with your team.
-
Keith, you need to sign dude. If hold out too long and your backup shows you up while you're gone you may not even start right away, I mean he will know the defense better than you. Either way you're going to be rich as he11 so you really should just sign now so you don't miss anymore of camp.
-
IF THIS IS TRUE, YOU NEED TO FIRE YOU'RE AGENT IMMEDIATELY.....
Multiple league sources believe that agent David Dunn is deliberately dragging his feet regarding negotiations with the Bengals for linebacker Keith Rivers, the No. 9 overall pick in the 2008 draft, until the Jaguars sign defensive end Derrick Harvey, the No. 8 overall pick.
Opined one source, "They are worrying about what [Tom] Condon is doing one slot ahead of them — they are worried about next year's recruiting, not the best interests of the kid."
Harvey is represented by CAA, which consists of agents Tom Condon, Ben Dogra, and Ken Kremer.
The floor for Rivers has been set, given the the Pats signed linebacker Jerrod Mayo, the No. 10 overall pick, more than a week ago. The fact that both Rivers and Mayo are linebackers makes the Mayo deal even more comparable.
The fear apparently is that, if Condon does a deal that represents a moderate upgrade over Mayo, Harvey's deal eventually will come in at a much higher value, giving Condon, Dogra, and Kremer a valuable tool for luring college players who might be leaning toward Dunn in the looming rush for next year's draft picks.
The only problem? It's potentially hurting Rivers. "The kid is missing valuable time to serve their own best and selfish interests," the source said.
Though Condon is the good guy in this story, his protracted holdout in 2007 of Browns quarterback Brady Quinn resulted in Quinn losing a shot at replacing Charlie Frye early in Quinn's rookie season, allowing Derek Anderson to establish a stranglehold on the job and making it much harder for Quinn to ever earn incentives based on his status as the starter.
-
You need to be at camp. Everyone else is there working hard and your sitting at home. You will earn no respect from your teammates by not practicing.
-
Keith, forget all these naysayers, man. You have to make sure you're secure for life after football. Do what you need to do, and when you get it done, we'll look foreward to you being in camp. Who Dey!
-
Good job exploring your hold out and missing camp you greedy SOB.
-
Please Keith come on and sign with the Bengals, so you can join the workouts. Your needed on this team!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
Dude, I just got your #58 Jersey from the Pro Shop, get that agent to get a deal done NOW so you can get ready for the season, I'd hate to see a Pollack type holdout with you! Good luck
-
Keith, I think I speak for all the fans when I say, we will be there for you. If you can sacrifice a bit for us and we will return it in kind. This is a team and a town hungry for success. We're just waiting for the chance to do good things for you.
-
hey keith,
as a bengal fan from the beginning, let me welcome you to cincy...go visit the message boards at cincinnatibengals.com, click on fan zone and you'll find the message boards as your second selection on the drop down menu...alot of the bengals visit to see what the fans are talking about...and there's alot of talk about you going on over there as we speak...everyone's excited and can't wait to get you into camp, in anticipation of the new era cincy D.
look foreward to seeing you in georgetown soon. -
Keith, my guess is you've been dreaming your entire life to one day have the opportunity to play in the NFL. You worked long and hard on and off the football field to prove that you belonged and it finally paid off with a great tenure at USC and being drafted with the 9th overall pick in the draft. Now, you're at the cusp of making your dream come true...your very first NFL training camp and practices are here. The chance to play on the biggest stage in the world is right in front of you. You've been offered millions and millions of dollars...enough in guaranteed money that you and your family will be set for life, but where are you? For the other 99% of us out here, we'd do just about anything to have the opportunity to either A.) do something we love for a living or B.) do something that would guarantee our financial freedom forever. You have both of these options wrapped up in one, waiting for you. You can get this deal done whenever you want...all you need to do is tell your agent ENOUGH! Get this finished NOW! I need to be in camp! Your agent is representing his best interest and his goal is to get the absolute most money he can...not for you, but for himself and his company. Your future as an NFL football player is being jeopordised by the greed of your agent. It's making you look incredibly bad in the eyes of Bengal fans...the same fans who should be out buying your jersey and talking up how great you're going to be. Instead, we are sitting here wondering how another great athlete can be so stupid to risk his future when he has his dream right in front of him.
-
If you pay attention to how the Bengals do business, they are more than happy to redo contracts before they are out. Heck Chad has had three new contract and it seems as if he will get one more. Carson's contract was redone long before it was out. Look at Peko and Whitworth. Both were drafted a mere two years ago and both have new contracts. Whatever is holding things up now, don't worry about it. You can get it fixed later. Sign your contract and get into camp.
